Andriy Kapral' - the master of improvisation
He doesn't like to be the second or, what is worse, the third. That is why he started to study being a soloist in advance. He sang his first solo in maternity hospital on 20 January, 1975. Further skills of singer, accompanied by saucepans as drums, brooms as guitars and bulbs as microphones, were improving in the kitchen of his flat. In order not to annoy his neighbors by monotony, Andriy extended his repertoire with the songs he heard on radio or TV. Arrangements full of rhythm and imitation of instruments along with the performance à la Bobby McFerrin were done with the thought for his fellows.
The Pioneer Palace should have become his first music school. There Andriy tried to learn playing the drums or at least the grandfather's Italian accordion. It didn't turn out. So, in the music studio affiliated to "Silmash" factory Andriy finally freed his hands from instruments and his voice from the thoughts about neighbors. At Music College he had no option but to study choral singing the department of chorus conduction four times a week. Owing to vocal changes, the future member of "Pikkardijska Tertsia" experimented a lot with his voice - the first year he was singing bass, then baritone and finally turned into a tenor. However, his voice was so sonorous that it exceeded all the limits and Andriy had to perform solo. To have the right to break the rules Andriy had been taking additional lessons where he was singing the songs of "Pikkardijska Tertsia" repertoire till complete satisfaction.
For 14 year Andriy was studying officially, therefore he has all the documents that prove graduation from S. Lyudkevych Lviv Music College and Mykola Lysenko Higher Institute of Music. However, he continues his unofficial studies till now. Every day Andriy is experimenting with his voice, introducing emotional shades of great range to present them later fully to the audience.
He is indebted to "Pikkardijska Tertsia" for acquaintance with his future wife. She attended their combined concert with "Plach Yeremiyi" ("Cry of Jeremiah") and "Mertvyy Piven'" ("Dead Cock"). She chose Andriy among all the vocalists and promised she would be dating with him. Andriy didn't object, so now he is giving practical advice for his two daughters which octaves are best for crying and laughing.
