Andriy Shavala - a lucky replacement

Andrii Shavala

He can't live without singing. Starting from his birthday, 3 April, 1967, he was an active listener of his father's master classes who possessed a fine voice and could perfectly play several music instruments. Andriy together with his younger brother Igor undertook the initiative and organized a family band. Later on they noticeably improved their knowledge in a music school.

Since 1978, having already mastered the art of playing the bayan (kind of accordion), Andriy had learned to make use of a clarinet in a brass band called "Orlyatko" ("Eaglet") affiliated to "Silmash" factory. During the next five years Andriy studied to reproduce a real harmony instead of a mere show in the form of crackle and noise. He succeeded in it with the assistance of Mikhail Hamer, an orchestra conductor, the person who was educated and passionately devoted to music. Some time later, in 1980, Andriy went on his first tour to Mocow, where the program "Shyrye Krug" ("Let's widen the circle") was recorded in the Ostankino television centre.

After finishing the 8th form at school there appeared a problem of profession choice. Andriy had several options: he could become either a sportsman (he was a goalkeeper of school handball team), or an artist (some of his early works of art are good examples of childish primitivism) or a musician (he had already some experience). He didn't make a decision. Taking into consideration that Andriy considers himself as a lucky fatalist, full responsibility fell on a young lady called Destiny. She almost always pays attention to Mr. Shavala's wishes and even when she doesn't fulfill some of them she always converts them into something positive.

So, that was Destiny who, in Andriy's opinion, first led him and was favorable to him as much as possible during his entrance exams to Lviv Kolessa Music and Pedagogy College. Then she took him to another alma mater - Choir of the Trembita State Capella of Ukraine - where he spent 13 years visiting many cities of the former Soviet Union, Ukraine and Europe. Some time later Destiny fulfilled her next duty. One day Slavko Nudyk, who was also singing in Trembita, gave Andriy a draft recording of the coming release of "Pikkardijska Tertsia" album to listen to. And when "Pikkardijska Tertsia" needed to replace one of the singers, Andriy Bazylykut, who left the formation, Slavko again remembered of Andriy Shavala. After his first heroic deed (when for the sake of successful performance of the band he studied his part in 30 songs) Andriy became the first and the last successful replacement of ‘Andriys' in "Pikkardijska Tertsia".

Andriy met his wife with the help of Destiny, of course, and his friends before the period of "Pikkardijska Tertsia". Their daughter Iryna and son Maksym are visible consequences of their acquaintance.
