Volodymyr Yakymets - a faultless tuning fork

Volodymyr Yakymets (Donald among the people) was born on 28 July, 1974 in Lviv. The first solo concert was performed by him in the kitchen of nursery. He was taken there by cooks who wanted to listen to carols. Then a tasty baked pudding became his first honorarium.

Donald went to a music school earlier than to a secondary one. Having celebrated the fifth birthday, he started mastering a profession of pianist. The next stage in his career was studies at S. Lyudkevych Lviv Music College at the department of theory of music, later at Mykola Lysenko Higher Institute of Music (the department of chorus conduction). On his third year of studies Donald decided to continue his self-education and he took away his documents from the Institute. In order to implement his knowledge of music theory into practice he, together with his friends, started a mixed choir in 1992. After careful selection a quartet including Donald, Slavko Nudyk, Andriy Kapral and Bohdan Bohach was left. Shortly after, the quartet expanded into sextet called "Pikkardijska Tertsia"

Volodymyr has lots of God-given gifts. The one he didn't bury is the ability to create and meticulously arrange musical compositions. The feeling of style and rhythm, fixation of the slightest vocal and verbal semitones allow him to write songs on words of generally recognized as well as talented young poets. He never changed his concept of song making which includes hard and sincere work that later will be appreciated by the audience. The audience in its turn always shows its gratitude by attending the performance of "Pikkardijska Tertsia". Taras Shevchenko National Prize which was awarded to "Pikkardijska Tertsia" in March 2008 was the highest expression of people's affection.

Volodymyr has been constantly diversifying the repertoire. Amongst near 300 songs which are sung by "Pikkardijska Tertsia" one third was set to his music, more than 70 % of all vocal compositions are arranged by him. Donald is the only bachelor in the band so far.
